Photo of The Week: First Harvest

Here they are, the first vegetables from the garden for 2012!  How can you not be excited?

This type of radish is the Early Scarlet Globe variety, which Paul got from Seed Savers Exchange and planted just six short weeks ago. He got a total about 21 bunches (a bunch is about 6-9) from the bed, as well as 5 bunches of another variety he tried, the Plum Purple variety.

Oh heck, I’ll throw in a bonus photo of the purple ones, just for fun.

Next up is kale, and then a whole bunch more!

About Leigh

Born and raised in Rochester, MN, Leigh moved to the Twin Cities in 2004 for college. She stayed, and now works for a south metro city in the recycling department. In February of 2011, she and Paul bought a neglected farm house in the city to start our own urban hobby farm.

  1. They are gorgeous! Nice photography too!

  2. So exciting to get your first veggies! They look beautiful- bet they tasted just as good, too. Hope the kale turns out for you, too!

    • Thanks for the compliment! They were very tasty–nice and spicy, especially the purple ones. Paul’s been painstakingly growing kale plugs for several weeks, and just put up deer fencing around the bed where they’ll be planted. They should be going into the ground any day now–we hope they turn out too!
